It’s another cloudy, rainy day here in London and the colour of my clothing reflects the damp dark weather, I’ve gone for all black.

I actually love wearing black, it’s my favourite colour to wear I must admit.

So today I’m wearing a relaxed fit jumper from Mango (£22.99), Leigh super soft skinny jeans from Topshop (£40, also available in Tall) and Black High Heeled boots from Aldo (no longer being sold).

I recently bought a retro Casio watch which I’m wearing today (I vaguely remember my dad having a similar one when I was a child) on Amazon for £17.15 (model number LA-670WA-1UW). The same watch is being sold for upward of £30 on ASOS and in American Apparel at the moment so I think I managed to find myself a bargain.

I’m really happy with this watch for one main reason which is I have unbelievably tiny wrists (added to my all over gangly/lanky appearance) and it doesn’t look totally ridiculous. I started of really wanting a TOY watch but unfortunately they were far too big for me, the watch case was actually wider than my wrist!

I’ve also added a splash of colour by painting my nails with this amazing lilac coloured nail varnish (called Parma Violet, £5 from Topshop)

Do you use painting your nails a bright colour to brighten up an outfit too?

Long Tall… Dowdy

I’ve written a few articles before about being tall and the challenges this presents when buying clothes.

Usually if I can’t find anything elsewhere I’ll resort to buying from Long Tall Sally. And this is a very last resort. The reason being is I find it, well… quite boring and sometimes down right dowdy.

Surely there’s a higher population of younger tall girls (whenever I’m in the queue at my local post office, I’m reminded just how gigantic I am next to the older ladies who are collecting their pension etc.) so why are LTS not catering for them?

Here’s a selection of Long Tall Sally clothing:

    

Yes, that is a denim maxi skirt which, any respectable art teacher over the age of 50 owns and yes that is a maxi cardigan. The print on the skirt is also just so dull. Honestly all their clothes just seem to be about covering up! Tall girls should be proud of their long legs, not being offered a selection of “cover up” options.

Now I’m not saying all girls with long legs should be parading around in hot pants but they definitely should not be wearing denim skirts or maxi cardigans.

Long Tall Sally does have some good points however which are, they seem to be one of the only retailers that recognises Tall is not just over a certain height (usually around 5’8″). They recognise there’s a big difference between someone who is 5’8″ and someone who is 5’11″. If a dress is made for someone who’s 5’8″ it simply will not be long enough for someone who’s 5’11″ so they usually go towards the taller end of the scale so that people who are around 5’8″ can simply adjust the length by taking it up a bit. They also have trousers and jeans in various leg lengths from 34″ to 38″ so I usually buy trousers I plan to wear with heels from them.

I’m not asking for LTS to start stocking the colourful creations currently available at Topshop but I would personally love to see some more modern basics at reasonable prices on their site, just like my recent maxi dress find at Next which you can read about here.

For those of you out there who are 5’7″ and above, you’ll know there are some items of clothing that are particularly hard to find.

Don’t get me wrong, since I was a child the range has increased dramatically, but there are still the odd things that I struggle to find.

The main things being maxi dresses, maxi skirts and trousers long enough to wear with heels. Recently I discovered Next’s Tall range which has some quite nice dresses as you can see from the below images.

    

If you’re not tall and wondering why us Tallies would need “Tall” dresses, it’s usually because if they’re meant to be knee length like the one’s above they usually come up much shorter on us.

But best of all, they had the one dress I’d been looking for… a plain black jersey maxi dress (and it was only £20!). Yes, if you’re not tall you may be thinking there’s such a huge number of these available on the UK High Street today, even in stores such as Primark but the thing is they are not long enough for me. I like my maxi dresses to be touching the floor at the very least.

But my recent triumphant discovery is not the actual reason I’m writing this. The real reason for me doing so is that I noticed literally a few days after I had purchased mine, they had completely sold out of this dress. (They now have a few size 18′s left on their website but if you want one you’ll have to be quick!).

This says to me that I’m not the only girl who has been desperately trying to find a tall version of something that is so widely available on the UK high street for non tallies. So please Next, if you’re reading this please get some of these dresses back in stock so my fellow tall girls can also enjoy having the simplest of pleasures (have a maxi dress that actually fits).
